Giampaolo Formisano

Attending Surgeon, Division of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery

USL 9, Misericordia Hospital, Grosseto, Italy

Dr. Formisano graduated with honors in 2007 and completed his surgical residency program in 2014 at the University "Federico II" of Naples. He early embraced minimally invasive surgery in his surgical training and, since 2011, he was a resident at the Department of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric surgery, directed by Dr. Luigi Angrisani (San Giovanni Bosco Hospital – Naples – Italy). His first robotic experience was in 2013 as resident at the Department of General and Oncologic Surgery (SS Antonio and Biagio Hospital – Alessandria – Italy), headed by Dr. Giuseppe Spinoglio, taking thus part to one of the largest robotic surgery programs in Europe. Field of interests ranged from upper gastrointestinal surgery to colorectal, fluorescence imaging system (both laparoscopic and robotic) and Single-Site™ platform, mostly focused on oncologic surgery. He completed his residency defending a thesis on “robotic right colectomy with complete mesocolic excision” and then continued his experience in Alessandria as clinical research fellow working on the project “Sentinel lymph node identification in colon cancer with robotic near infrared (NIR) fluorescent imaging system”. G. Formisano currently works as attending surgeon at the Division of General and Minimally invasive Surgery (Misericordia Hospital – Grosseto - Italy), facing routinely robotic surgery in clinical practice. He is co-author of some peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and one textbook of robotic surgery, edited by Dr. Spinoglio.
